What do I need to start Gaming programs with the Wii?

I've been looking around online for the Wii and accessories, but it's beginning to confuse me. I want to purchase a Wii and want to play with 4 players at a time. Here are some things that are confusing me: Do I need 4 remotes and 4 nunchucks? Or can nunchucks act as remotes? Which games are best and/or more popular and appropriate for library? I'm thinking DDR, Guitar Hero, and MarioKart, on top of the Wii Sports and Wii Play games. Where can I get the best price? If anyone has any info, le… Continue

Why I'm interested in researching gaming and pedagogy

For quite a while, I was very happy to keep my pastimes and my work separate. Games also carry other benefits. They help students connect and build social skills, working as part of a team or negotiating the most advantageous situation for themselves. It… Continue

Started a new gaming blog

Although I was reticent to start the writing process, I have begun a blog talking about board games in school libraries. Library Gamer - http://librarygamer.wordpress.com/ I will be reviewing many of the modern boardgames that we purchase for the game library that we are developing at the School Library System of Genesee Valley BOCES. We are building a collection of authentic gaming experiences that hold some connection to the curriculum. If yo… Continue

Preaching to the choir

Although I've been published in fiction and non-fiction heretofore, this link takes you to my first official library-related publication -- for the LSO Bibliotech magazine from UA where I'm completing my degree.

I'm going through the evaluation responses, and there are some great ideas here for sessions at GLLS2008. Of course, the hard part is identifying speakers for the topics, but for those who didn't g... Continue

Best video games for traditional literacy?

If you had to name video games (preferably console and handheld ones) that you can easily "sell" as supporting traditional literacy, what would they be? My starter list includes Pokemon and Hotel D... Continue

Non-native speaker gamers and libraries

I study how students of other languages play games to learn that language. I also supervise a small video game library (http://aizulvl.pbwiki.com) at my university here in Japan. I want to continue... Continue
